Malay Dance

Malay Dance provides students with opportunities to develop discipline, teamwork, confidence and an appreciation of Malay cultural heritage through the performing arts. Members learn a range of traditional and contemporary Malay dance styles, including Inang, Joget, Zapin and Asli. Through weekly training sessions and performances, students develop dance techniques, stage presence and teamwork while cultivating resilience, commitment and mutual support. Members are also given opportunities to take on leadership roles by mentoring juniors and leading activities. The CCA has consistently achieved the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Certificate of Distinction since 2007.

Programmes:

1. Secondary 1 CCA Experience, Immersion and Team Bonding Programme
Through a series of interactive bonding and team-building activities, Secondary 1 members forge friendships, develop teamwork skills and build a strong sense of camaraderie within the CCA.

2. School Performances and Cultural Showcases
Through performances at key school events, including Hari Raya celebrations, National Day and Speech Day, members build confidence, refine their performance skills and demonstrate teamwork and discipline while representing the school with pride.

3. Stage Make-up and Hair Styling Workshop
Through hands-on workshops, members acquire basic stage make-up and hair styling skills while learning the importance of professionalism, self-presentation and responsibility in the performing arts.

4. Student Leadership and Choreography Opportunities
Members are given opportunities to mentor juniors, lead warm-up sessions and contribute choreography ideas for performances. These experiences nurture confidence, creativity and communication skills while developing leadership and teamwork within the CCA.

5. External Performances and Dance Showcases
Selected members at the Muara@Esplanade and the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF). These opportunities allow students to showcase their talents on larger stages, strengthen their stage presence and teamwork, and gain valuable exposure to Singapore’s vibrant arts scene.

6. Graduation Get-Together and Reflection Session
This annual session provides graduating members and juniors with an opportunity to celebrate achievements, reflect on their experiences and recognise the friendships, values and life lessons gained through Malay Dance.
